Tacos El Durango in Gurnee

We were driving home from Wisconsin and found this restaurant online with good reviews. Definitely worth the stop! Great food, friendly family staff! Will be sure and stop again if ever in the area.

It's actually been a few months since the last time I ate here and really been missin' it.IMHO Tacos el Durango is in my top 3 among Mexican restaurants in Lake county and in this county alone there's gotta be easily 200+ places to get Mexican eats.Cozy venue is always kept ultra clean and friendly staff/owners are serving up delicious Mexican fare at reasonable prices.A bit of a hidden gem even though it's off of a main drag just west of US 41 in a low lying strip mall in far southeast Gurnee near the Park City border.

Really good authentic Mexican food here. Everything I've tried is great, the arrechera, sopes with chicken, chorizo tacos, the chips they serve as an appetizer are so good too. Highly recommend this place. Go early though, they close by 3:30!

Small and out of the way but clean and simple. Food was outstanding, service was good, prices were reasonable. Smaller menu than a typical Mexican restaurant but still a very good variety with plenty of seafood options. We can't wait to eat here again on our next Chicago area trip!

We stopped In for breakfast. The server was super nice!! He was very accommodating. Nice quaint place. I just truly loved the service!

Family owned and operated. Always friendly service. Authentic Durango regional foods. Not cozy but always delicious served with a smile. This is one of our favorite places for Sunday breakfast as well as dinners on the go. Some things we've tried there so far are steak and eggs, all of their tacos, the steak and chicken Fajitas, chorizo and eggs, eggs rancheros, my favorite chilies rellenos. There is also this amazing burrito covered in their creamy green salsa that it absolutely addicting. Everything is served with rice, beans and your choice of corn or flour tortillas. They don't have a web site nor do they deliver, but please don't let that stop you from checking it out. You won't be sorry.

Yum! Just tried this little gem today. I work right down the street and never knew this place was here! Someone recommended it to me that I work with so went there for lunch today. The service is great. They are very prompt. Great food, great service, and good food. I use to go to Tacos El Norte but this place in my opinion is better! Tacos el Durango has better tasting and quality food. It is hot and you feel satisfied when your done. I only have a certain amount of time to take my break so this is very convenient. They get you in and out quickly. Will definitely be returning.

Authentic tasting Mexican food with fast and friendly service. The chicken enchiladas were delicious.

Really excellent food, great value, and warm service. Family-owned restaurants are the best. We had burritos and tacos. Very flavorful and large quantity. We’ll definitely visit again when in Gurnee.

Best Mexican food around!! My FAVORITE place!!

Great local Mexican restaurant! The prices are good and the people there are friendly. The only problem is that their hours are a little strange. The close very early some days leaving me very hungry and going to another Mexican restaurant instead. I would much rather go here.

Visited brother in law who is stationed in Gurnee and found this amazing restaurant. Authentic Mexican Food at a great price. Family owned and operated, the parents throw down in the kitchen. We went twice and my wife's grandmother even gave the stamp of approval for the menudo. I had tacos and a quesadilla the 1st time that came with homemade tortillas. My wife had the enchiladas which she loved. 2nd time i had the red chilaquiles which were spicy but delicious. Highly recommended by our family.

Love this place! I haven't been there in a while since I no longer work in that area but out of the many, many times I've eaten there I've never had a bad meal/experience. Love their salsa! I don't know why people are complaining about getting charged for wanting extra🙄. I'm gonna have to make another trip out that way soon! The employees are kind and hardworking! I even had car trouble there once (car wouldn't start) and the owner came out and helped me!

Best taco for the price in a long time.

I ordered for 20 and the customer service, presentation of the food, delivery, and taste of the meal were all incredible! Highly recommend for eating for 1 or feeding a large group. Great prices and delicious food!

Quite frankly the best Tacos I have ever had. Their chicken Tacos are especially good, and the staff is caring and kind.

A good Mexican meal with good service. Some of the best Mexican food in the area for a decent price. The refreshments were all canned so don't expect too many options or variety for your drink.

The food great and as well as the service..

This is a great place to grab some lunch. They are generally fast in getting your food out. I normally place my order to go and by the time I get there my order is ready. I love their Burrito Suizo. The red sauce is the spiciest and the best in my opinion. BEWARE it is spicy! Although they aren't open late it's still a good spot to have an early dinner.

We had a fantastic time in this restaurant. We liked the nice vibes and the food. The staff members were super personal. I’m happy we finally managed to eat here.

Easily the best Mexican joint I've had in Lake County. The prices are great, the staff is so hospitable, and the food is fire. I've literally never had a bad meal OR a messed up take-out order. They keep me coming back!

Delicious food, service ok & inexpesive.

Food was fantastic. I recently moved back from Arizona and have been trying to find a good Mexican style food place that was as good as the places I ate at in AZ. And this is the first one I have found and I stop at multiple new places every week. I will be back to this place as much as I can.

We were on our way back to Wisconsin from Illinois and were looking for a good Mexican restaurant to eat at. This place got amazing reviews so we thought we'd give it a try. It's a nice little place with good menu selection and good service. We had the tacos, burrito with green sauce and guacamole and we liked it all. They keep some weird hours so give them a ring before you go.

Amazing chimichangas, probably the best I've ever had. Everything was fresh and prepared to perfection. Would recommend this place to anyone.

Been feeling like a taco traitor as of late thanks to this joint. Arguably the best steak taco in Lake County..seriously. This place and ETP run neck & neck. Gotta love a good family style Mexi restaurant. Service is fast and always welcoming. Whoevers seasoning the steak back there is truly testing my loyalty. Keep em' coming, team. Kudos to everybody.

I go to this lovely place quite a bit! This is my favorite spot to pass a nice evening. I visit this place routinely. The cooking is fantastic, the team is polite and the rates are decent. I enjoy going in this place for a decent lunch.

Do not order the enchiladas or chilaquiles. They do not use Mexican chili sauce. They use Chile de arbol which is super hot. This tells me that the chef does not know what he or she is doing. I don't think they even know how to make authentic Mexican food.
